Precision Soil Mapping for Smarter Irrigation Planning in Central West NSW

7th July 2025

At OptiSoil, we are currently undertaking an Electromagnetic (EM) and Gamma radiometric survey in Central West New South Wales, supporting the early stages of a new irrigation development. This project is a crucial part of due diligence, ensuring infrastructure placement is aligned with underlying soil conditions before significant investment is made.

Our work focuses on identifying subtle changes in soil types across the landscape. This information is essential for irrigation design, enabling clients to plan effectively, avoid future issues, and optimise system performance.

What sets OptiSoil apart is our use of the DualEM21S, a leading-edge sensor capable of reading soil conductivity down to three metres deep. This depth is particularly important when it comes to detecting buried sandy streams and other subsurface features that could impact water movement, infiltration, or root development.

By integrating EM and Gamma survey data with our soil science expertise, we help land managers make informed decisions from the ground up, literally.
