Canberra, ACT – The OptiSoil team recently participated in the Soil and Plant Analysis Workshop held at the CSIRO Black Mountain Science and Innovation Park, Canberra, on 26th-27th October 2023. This event, organised for laboratory managers and technicians, is a significant forum in the field of soil and plant analysis.

The workshop, aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of professionals in plant and soil analysis, brought together experts from across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. The ASPAC (Australasian Soil and Plant Analysis Council) workshop focused on refining methods that show a broad spread of data in proficiency testing rounds, ensuring accuracy in results, and sharing practical tips and techniques in the field.

Key topics covered in the workshop included sample preparation, soil sampling, handling acid sulfate soils, carbon analysis, and advanced methodology. Participants also benefited from discussions on quality control measures, enjoyed a comprehensive laboratory tour, and engaged with a presentation on global proficiency in the field.

OptiSoil, though a new entrant in the market, boasts a robust laboratory component with a 20-year history as a commercial laboratory. This workshop was particularly significant for OptiSoil’s, Ned and Sally, who represented the company. It was an opportunity to not only learn but also network with many of Ian’s former colleagues. Ian, a seasoned laboratory operator, has been a cornerstone in the establishment and growth of OptiSoil’s laboratory services.
